Her name is Karen Elson and she really is a model first and foremost but her talent as a singer/songwriter and guitarist is undeniable. She walked the runways of Marc Jacobs (one of my personal faves), D&G, Chanel, Versace and the likes.

She delved into music a while ago when she, together with some others, founded the political cabaret group The Citizen Bands and many critics praised her vocal skills. Elson also contributed backings to a remix of a Robert Plant’s song and duetted with Cat Power.

However, she’s a songwriter in her own right and the video I chose for you is her live version of ‘Pretty Babies‘, one of the songs found in her debut album ‘The Ghost Who Walks‘. Jack White, of White Stripes fame (and Elson’s husband) produced the album… his musical influence can be felt in these songs but it really goes hand in hand with Elson’s vision.

Nataly Dawn and Jack Conte are  a dynamic duo (not just musically but also romantically) who play a vast array of instruments.. the damsel is a butt-kicking bassist and her partner in crime is no amateur instrumentalist. Their own original material is insanely good and their covers of more popular songs are nothing short of amazing. One other interesting thing about this ‘band’ is the videos they post on youtube… they’re fun, wacky and cool making Pomplamoose a visual bliss too!

This British act (the Godfrey brothers; Paul and Ross, and vocalist Skye Edwards) is well known for it’s trip hop beats and psychedelic sounds, but it also draws inspiration from blues, rhythm, rock and pop.

They are mostly known for the hit single ‘Rome Wasn’t Built In a Day’; their most commercial song to date. However, the Morcheeba experience is more than just some catchy song with a brassy arrangement that screams 50s jive, jazz and blues. The key word here is ambiance.

In 2003, the Godfrey brothers dismissed Skye Edwards from the band (citing musical and personal differences), and that my friends, was the most stupid thing they ever did… and their post-skye work sucked a little… Musically the tracks were fine, but the vocals missed the finesse Miss Edwards brings to the table…

And now, after 7 years of absence, Morcheeba go back to their winning formula *ecstatic grin* Skye, Paul and Ross reunited together and have completed their 7th studio album: Blood Like Lemonade.
