Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

By Matt in Acoustic, Folk, Indie

It’s quite complex to describe who the mentioned Edward Sharpe is, so I’m just going to quote Wikipedia

After breaking up with his girlfriend, moving out of his house, and joining a 12-step program for addiction, Ebert began work on a story about a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe. According to Ebert, Sharpe “was sent down to Earth to kinda heal and save mankind…but he kept getting distracted by girls and falling in love.” Ebert later met singer Jade Castrinos in Los Angeles. In the summer of 2009, as Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Ebert and Castrinos toured the country with a group of fellow musicians in a big white school bus.

Interesting to note… they must have one of the longest URL I’ve seen! http://www.edwardsharpeandthemagneticzeros.com/

Here’s my favourite song, with its 60s sound; apparently this is the best track off the album.

And something more than just music…

This is quite an interesting project… quoting the text off their YouTube page

Desert is PART 1 of a 12-Part feature-length movie musical. The opening footage is of singer Alex Ebert’s father chanting in Monument Valley -- shot by his mother. Desert Song is about Alex’s reckoning with the middle name his father secretly wrote on his birth certificate -- a Native American name which means ‘Devil’ or ‘Demon’.

Kisses Over Babylon is the second installment of SALVO!, a 12-part music video series from Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros. Kisses picks up in the same desert wasteland world, ravaged by drought. Edward is arrested by two Minors (police from Ursa Minor) for the murder of his own father, and taken to a water-labor prison. There he reunites with Brother, his long-ago friend, and rallies the prisoners to a frenzied prison break.
